The Challenge
While working at Loughborough University with the reorganisation and relocation of over 450 staff from their iconic Hazelrigg and Rutland buildings, BCL was awarded the contract to relocate the Pilkington Library at Loughborough University. The Pilkington Library move involved the sequential packing of over 5,000 linear metres of journals, books and specialist collections and interfiling to bring collections together on their replacement in the refurbished library.
Project management and planning was the key to success.
The move was project managed throughout, and was a more demanding library move than normal. This was due to needing for interfiling in order to bring collections together.
The move involved the packing and decanting of the library stock for offsite storage, while refurbishment works were undertaken during the summer period.
Following a 13 week refurbishment program, the library stock was sequentially returned, unpacked onto shelves with interfiled stock, in line with the new library layout.
"I was at a meeting of the Library’s Building Development Group yesterday and they asked me to thank you and the other BCL staff involved in the contract for the way you have worked with them during the refurbishment works. The project has been very challenging for all involved but both the Library and ourselves have found you to be very responsive to our requests and requirements throughout the project. Thank you once again".
