University of Manchester Laboratory Moves

Project Details

The University of Manchester commissioned a new building in 2015 to house the Henry Royce Institute. The Henry Royce Institute is the UK’s national institute for advanced materials research and innovation.

BCL assisted the University by decanting several laboratories from the legacy buildings and relocating them to the new facility. This was a multi phased project carried out over circa 24 months.

The Challenges

Even the standard equipment such as 3D Printers, Glove Boxes and Fume Cupboards required skill and care to be moved. Some of the equipment was bespoke and unique requiring our utmost attention.

Preparation played a crucial role with planning meetings taking place with the UoM Project Manager before every removal phase. BCL was also able to utilise its specialist lifting equipment and crate makers to ensure that everything arrived safely.

BCL managed to forge effective relationships with the multiple stakeholders – from University Professors to Project Managers and construction contractors.

BCL has successfully moved all of the equipment and, at the time of typing, is moving the academic staff’s personal belongings as well.
